PSHE
Intent
The teaching of personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education allows pupils from all backgrounds to express themselves, broaden their world view and learn about themselves. Through PSHE, pupils will gain the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy, independent lives and to become informed, active and responsible citizens.
Implementation
PSHE lessons are taught weekly. Our curriculum covers key concepts and skills to support pupils’ moral, social and cultural education, focusing on Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. PSHE is also covered through weekly Keeping Safe sessions and whole school assemblies. In addition, Wellbeing Days are also organised throughout the school year. RSE is taught within the personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education curriculum, as well as within the science curriculum.
Impact
Our children will:
- develop an understanding of the qualities of positive relationships
- develop respect, tolerance and understanding
- develop positive body awareness
- improve their knowledge of how to keep themselves safe
- have knowledge of the wider world
Children demonstrate their attainment in PSHE in a variety of ways. We assess the children’s work and input in lessons by making informal judgements as we observe and listen to them during lessons. On annual reports for parents, PSHE is assessed based on the extent to which they have met the age related expectations from the National Curriculum. The impact of PSHE lessons will be monitored by the PSHE Coordinator. This involves discussions with staff about the effectiveness of their planning, their teaching styles and strategies and continuous professional development opportunities.
