Computing

Subject Vision

In a world where Technology is increasingly becoming integral to our day-to-day life, Earl Spencer Primary’s Computing Curriculum aims to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding that children will need in order to succeed. Computing is a skill, which is vital to many subjects and begins within the EYFS up to Year 6.

Intent

To ensure a consistent approach to the teaching of Computing across all year groups at Earl Spencer Primary School. The computing scheme will offer content that allows a broad and deep understanding of computing and how it links to children’s lives, in and outside of school life.

Implementation

Computing sessions at Earl Spencer Primary School intend to inspire pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of the digital world. Lesson plans and resources will help build on prior knowledge, alongside learning new skills. Cross-curricular links will play an important part of embedding what the children have learnt in their computing sessions, by applying their knowledge and skills to core subjects. The Computing scheme will sequence lessons for each year group, which will support teachers in their teaching of Computing. An emphasis on internet safety and purposes will be weaved throughout units to support children’s technology choices and uses both in school and at home.

Impact

The computing work of the children at Earl Spencer Primary School will be presented in a variety of technological forms. Children will enjoy their learning and will be confident using a range of hardware and software programs. Children will be able to explain their learning journey, using computing and technology vocabulary accurately. The teaching of Computing will show a clear progression of skills from the EYFS to year 6.
