Mental Health & Wellbeing

At Earl Spencer we believe the mental health and wellbeing of our school community (pupils, parents and staff) is fundamental to our school philosophy and ethos of ‘Striving for excellence’.

Our wellbeing strategy aims to bring to life the school’s core values of Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, Aspiration, Pride and Enjoyment.  We recognise the important of creating an inclusive culture, promoting and developing resilience of our children. We are committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our community and recognise the risk factors that can impact our children’s mental health and wellbeing.

Staff at Earl Spencer Primary school are passionate about making a difference to the lives of young people and strive to create a safe, happy and supportive environment, where children can build emotional resilience, confidence, self-belief and a sense of belonging.

Our Aim is to-

  • Adopt a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing to recognise and support children’s mental health and wellbeing, with a focus on early intervention.

We will-

  • Create a framework to ensure we are able to respond appropriately to mental health and wellbeing.
  • Create a curriculum with a carefully planned approach to PSHE embedded throughout the key stages.
  • Recognise and promote the 5 ‘ways to wellbeing’ throughout school
  • To provide the children with a voice and allow them to opportunity to take responsibility for their emotional health and wellbeing, this helping them feel safe, secure and heard.
  • Create an inclusive culture throughout the school building on relationships in the community.
  • Continue evolving the nurture support offered in school to meet the growing needs of our children
  • Maintain a workforce that feels mentally healthy and supported.
  • Create a supportive and effective attendance system recognising the impact metal health and wellbeing has on attendance and attainment. 
  • To promote and recognise the importance of outdoor learning on Mental health and wellbeing and develop a safe, nurturing outside learning environment.
  • Ensure staff wellbeing is considered and supported, introducing supervision.
